Neighbors Wondering Why This Guy Built Such A Small Pool Are Stunned When He Finally Fills It Up

One of the biggest perks of owning your own home is getting the opportunity to really put your stamp on things. Personalizing your property is one way of transforming an average piece of property into a home.

Many homeowners know that having a backyard means countless opportunities for your projects and hobbies. Who doesn’t dream of tending to the perfect garden or playing on a swing set for their kids?

When a man and his father decided they were fed up with the boring ol’ patch of grass that was their backyard, they decided it was time to change things for the better. The paradise they turned it into, though, was far beyond anything anyone could have anticipated…

A man and his father knew it was time to spruce up their home’s backyard. With bare dirt, patchy grass, and a sad-looking fence, it would be difficult for anyone to imagine it ever being transformed into something spectacular.

Even from another angle, it wasn’t much to look at. But this father-son pair had a vision, and they were determined to make it a reality. With a little bit of imagination and foresight, this little patch of land could become something much more grand.

After laying down some rudimentary plans, it was time for the construction to begin. This was going to be a long project that would involve many different steps. First, a small bulldozer was brought in to start digging.

Let the excavation begin! The groundbreaking of any project big or small, commercial or residential, is always thrilling. This project was no different. The day they broke ground was the moment the project really started to come to life.

Still going! You might think that it doesn’t take a lot of time for a digger this size to dig a pit, but you would be wrong. In order to dig out a hole that’s structurally sound, even a big machine like this digger needs to take it nice and slow. The pair also wanted to make sure there was nothing underground that they would damage.

The final idea was finally beginning to take shape after all of the excavating was finished, but it was still a long way from paradise. Still, it was evidence that the progress on this project was moving along at a healthy clip.

A stone walkway was next on the list. While the rugged terrain that existed before the father and son got to work on this project certainly had its own charm, a stone walkway would help the layout of the newly transformed space.

Can you guess what this backyard would become? That’s right: a pool! A liner was placed along the ground to form the base. When you see ponds or pools in nature, they do not need artificial linings in them to keep the water in its place. But when you make your own pool, a lining is necessary.

Another liner was next on the list, and this would help keep the water in place and prevent any leaking. This project was so specialized that the materials had to be ordered from Germany. Still, it was worth it.

A filtration system was constructed, too. The best thing about this filtration system is that it could be kept inside of the nearby garage. There was no need to have unsightly mechanical fixtures in their beautiful backyard!

Next, the father and son decided to form the base of the pool using blocks of rock. The rock lining was built by hand with the help of a few friends over the course of eight hours. Talk about back-breaking work! Can you believe that they were able to do something this impressive in such a short amount of time?

Water was pumped in once those rocks were in place. The finished product was finally starting to come into focus. Frankly, they could have left it like this and it would have still been perfectly stunning in every way…

The natural look of this outdoor space made it truly different from every other pool or pond project. The water was allowed to spill over the edges to create a flowing, natural pond. Don’t you want to dip your toes in it?

Not too shabby, eh? Well, they weren’t finished just yet! While most people would have been content leaving their natural pond looking like this, these folks had a different plan in mind for their backyard…

The next step made this pond really special: lights were installed to make it shine—even at night. Is there anything more romantic than the look of light shining up from the bottom of a pool like this one? It’s so inviting and comforting all at once. What a great idea!

As with all construction projects, there were some delays. Unfortunately, the weather got too cold to wrap it up in the summertime when the father and son began. You can see how the natural backyard pool froze over once the temperatures dipped.

Thankfully, the project was in a safe place when the weather changed, so they didn’t have to be concerned about any damage to the site itself. However, they did need to make sure that their pets didn’t fall through the ice. Watch out, kitty!

Thankfully, the cat didn’t fall through! By the time spring rolled around again, it was time to add the finishing touches. The family had been so excited to get back to work that they didn’t realize they were nearly done…

In the time it took them to continue the project, the father and son decided to update their plans a little bit. One of the updates included a deck in their new backyard so there would be more than one way to appreciate the pool.

Almost done! Look at the progress they made with the deck. You can practically feel the sun on your face as you sit there, savoring those lazy summer days, hot dog in one hand and the cocktail of your choice in the other.

Voila! The world’s coolest natural swimming pool was complete. Looking at the pool here, it is hard to imagine that there was ever a time that this backyard didn’t look this way! Talk about a rip-roaring success of a DIY project.

Now that is a backyard! Now that the project was finished, the family could finally start using all of their outdoor space and spend more time soaking up all those delicious rays of sun… while wearing plenty of sunscreen, of course.

What these folks built was nothing short of extraordinary. It’s like their own private oasis!
