Living in a Greenhouse can give you Dream Life Now
Heating the homes in icy cold areas is a real headache nowadays. People living in areas with normal temperature may not understand the struggle but for a couple living in Sweden, it is necessary to keep their home warm during winters. Coal and oil are the major methods used to stay warm which are not ‘green’ methods at all.
To cope up with the problem, a family in Stockholm came up with an idea of heating that not only saved their heating bills but also eliminated the need of traditional oils which ultimately made the resource of energy ‘green’.
Stockholm is one of those areas of Sweden where the winters are really long and stretching. Heating your home in such areas is a really hectic and costly task. You have to spend a lot on that. Luckily, Marie Granmar and Charles Sacilotto from Stockholm found an amazing way to save their resources as well as the environment.
The couple was tired of expensive heating bills in the winters so they came up with an affordable and eco-friendly way which took nothing but unconventional thinking and some creativity.
At first, the interior of the house may seem just as normal as any other house to any visitor without any special thing but there is something that makes the house extremely unique. It’s definitely not something scary but very interesting.
The couple had surrounded their home right inside a big greenhouse. Yes! A greenhouse that is used for the growth of plants. The idea of using a greenhouse was to keep a consistent climate inside it.
The structure looked really incredible because of its unique nature. The best thing about this house was that it kept the home warm enough that traditional heating methods like coal or oil were unnecessary. The couple had come up with a unique idea which allowed them to save the unnecessary cost of heating their home.
Charles came up with the idea with his architect friend Bengt Warne. Bengt originated this unique idea in 1974. He had already developed dozens of this type of homes for many couples before helping Charles and Marie.
The home of Charles and Marie had four-millimetre thick glass around it which allowed to maintain the temperature of the home. Following four-millimetre glass, there was still plenty of space to walk around the house.
Another major benefit of the greenhouse covering around the house was that the wood looked fresh all year round. The physical house didn’t ever come into contact with snow or rain which means that there was no need to treat the wood with any special chemical to prevent rot.
There were plenty of sliding doors built into the sides which made it easier for the people in the home to access the outdoors. It was necessary for Charles and Marie to keep constant access to the outside world. It also felt very special living in a house completely enclosed in a glass-walled greenhouse.
Besides enjoying the elimination of heavy heating bills, the couple also enjoyed the elimination of grocery store trips. How?
They took full advantage of the greenhouse by growing all sorts of fresh vegetables and fruits inside their home which saved them a good amount of money. It also helped them to enjoy some gardening.
Growing your own food inside your home gives you mental relief in a way that you always know you are eating completely organic food free from inorganic substances and pesticides.
The reason for the building a greenhouse around the house was not just based on practical measures. The couple also wanted something else. Upon asking, Charles defined that they wanted to enjoy the philosophy of life. They wanted to change their lifestyle completely.
Bengt defined that living in such a house is like a science fiction. “Living in a greenhouse gives architecture a fourth dimension, where time is represented by movements of naturally recycled endless flows of growth, sun, rain, wind and soil in plants, energy, air, water and earth”
It cannot be denied that greenhouse added a different fulfilment in the life of the family. The advantages of living in such a house can give you a dream life.
It may seem unconventional but Charles and Marie seem to love their home. They are really enjoying the natural environment.
